First time? Set up your key in 5 steps
Go to console.anthropic.com and create a free account with your email. No coding involved, it works like signing up for any website.
Add a small amount of credit under Billing. 5 USD is plenty to start. You pay Anthropic directly; ClientLens never touches your money.
Open API Keys in the left menu and click Create Key. Give it any name, like "ClientLens".
Copy the key that appears. It starts with sk-ant-. Treat it like a password.
Paste it in the field below and press Test key. A green confirmation means you're ready to research.

Typical cost: a quick scan is a few cents, a deep dive somewhat more. You pay only for what you use, directly to the provider.

A current model is pre-filled. If it ever stops working, click "Load available models" to see what your key can access and pick one.

The dossiers and prospect results will be written in this language. AI quality can vary by language, so widely used languages usually give the best results.

Use ClientLens from its own window, with an icon on your desktop or home screen. It still runs in your browser and keeps your data on your device.

How to use ClientLens

Install ClientLens as an app (optional)

You can add ClientLens to your computer or phone so it opens in its own window with its own icon, just like a normal app. It still runs in your browser and your data still stays on your device. It is optional: ClientLens works the same from a browser tab.

  • Chrome or Edge (computer): click the install icon at the right end of the address bar (a small screen with a down arrow), or use the "Install app" button in the top bar, then confirm. You can also open the browser menu and choose "Install ClientLens".
  • Android (Chrome): tap the menu (three dots), then "Install app" or "Add to Home screen".
  • iPhone or iPad (Safari): tap the Share button (the square with an up arrow), scroll down, and tap "Add to Home Screen". The install icon in the address bar does not appear on iPhone, this is the way to do it there.

💡 Once installed, ClientLens opens full-screen from your desktop, taskbar, or home screen. You still need an internet connection and your API key to run research.

Language and appearance

In Settings you can set the interface language (English or Spanish) and, separately, the language your research is written in. Under Appearance you can switch between light and dark mode and pick an accent color. Your choices are remembered on this device.

Set up your AI key

ClientLens needs an API key from one of the supported AI providers: Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, or Perplexity. Open Settings in the top bar, choose your provider, and follow the 5-step guide to create and paste your key. A "Test key" button confirms everything works before you spend anything.

💡 Any provider works. Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, and Perplexity are all good for research. Cost is typically a few cents per dossier, paid directly to the provider.

Tell ClientLens what you offer

Open My profile and describe your services, your ideal client, and your language pairs. This is what makes every dossier personal: the "Direct-client angle" section is written specifically around your offering, not generically.

💡 Example: "Medical translation EN→ES (Mexico), conference interpreting, pharmaceutical localization. Languages: English ↔ Spanish." The more specific, the sharper the outreach angle.

Research a specific company

Go to Research, paste a company URL or type a name, choose Quick scan (3–5 searches, faster) or Deep dive (10+ searches, more thorough), and click Research. ClientLens searches the live web and compiles a structured dossier.

The dossier includes: company snapshot, what they do, market and geographic reach, key people with contact info, recent signals (funding, expansion, hiring), digital footprint, and the direct-client angle tailored to your profile, with fit score, conversation starters, and a ready outreach draft.

Find prospects you don't know yet

The Find prospects tab has two modes, chosen with the toggle at the top:

  • 🔭 Discover by filters, set filters (industry, location, size, type, language signals, growth signals), choose how many results you want, and click Find prospects. The AI searches the web and returns real matching companies with fit scores. Each card has a Quick research and a Full dossier ✦ button.
  • 📋 Research a list, already have a list of company names or URLs (from a conference, a directory, your own shortlist)? Paste them one per line and click Research all. ClientLens researches each one in turn and saves a full dossier for each to your library. You can watch progress live and stop at any time.

💡 For Discover mode, start broad, just an industry and a region, then narrow. For bulk mode, run Quick scan first; you can always regenerate a promising one as a deep dive.

Work with a dossier

Every dossier has a set of actions in the top-right corner:

  • Edit, click to enter edit mode. Any dashed field can be corrected or annotated. Click "Save edits" to persist.
  • Export, download as PDF (print dialog), Markdown file, JSON file, or copy everything to the clipboard.
  • Send to Client Hub and Send to Outreach Companion (optional), these are off by default. If you use the Client Relationship Hub or Outreach Companion, turn them on under Settings, Companion tools, and a button appears on every dossier. Send to Client Hub downloads a CSV of everyone in People to know, ready to import into the Hub through Settings, Your data, Import from spreadsheet (the columns line up automatically, and unverified emails are left blank). Send to Outreach Companion downloads a handoff file. Do not have these tools? Settings has a link to get each one.
  • Regenerate, re-runs the research for the same company, useful if the first pass was a quick scan and you want more depth.
  • ✉ Outreach draft, generates a short, warm first-contact message from the dossier and your profile. Edit it in the modal, then copy.

Use the Tags and Notes fields at the bottom to label and annotate each prospect.

Your library

Every dossier is saved automatically in your browser's local storage, nothing goes to any server. Open the Library tab to browse, search, and manage them. Use Export backup to download a JSON file of your entire library, and Import backup to restore it on another browser or device.

💡 Use the Compare button in the top bar to view two dossiers side by side, useful when deciding which prospect to approach first.

About contact information

ClientLens searches public web sources for emails, phone numbers, and LinkedIn profiles. A few important notes:

  • The Company contact channels card shows general emails, phone numbers, contact pages, and the inferred email pattern (e.g. firstname.lastname@company.com), apply the pattern to other confirmed staff manually.
  • Emails marked unverified were found but could not be fully confirmed, always check before sending.
  • LinkedIn URLs are only shown if the exact URL was found in search results, never constructed from a name.
  • Each person has a ✓ Confirmed at source link, click it to verify they actually work at this company before reaching out.
  • Use the 🔍 Google and in LinkedIn search buttons when no email was found, they open pre-built targeted searches.
  • ⧉ Copy all contacts (top of the People section) copies every found email, phone, LinkedIn, and the company channels as one clean text block, ready to paste into your CRM or notes.

Tips for better results

  • Use the company's full website URL (e.g. https://company.com) rather than just the name, it's more precise.
  • Fill in your service profile before the first research. It makes the outreach angle much more useful.
  • Run a Quick scan first to see if the company is a good fit, then Regenerate as a deep dive if it is.
  • The AI cannot access pages that require login (LinkedIn profiles, gated content). It works from publicly available sources only.
  • If a dossier returns an error, check Settings → Test key. A 401 error means the key is wrong; a 529 means the provider is busy, retry in a moment.
  • If the model ever stops working (providers occasionally retire model names), open Settings and click ↻ Load available models. It shows a dropdown of exactly what your key can access, so you can pick a working one without knowing model names.
  • Curious what you've spent? Open Settings and click 📊 View usage to see how many requests and tokens ClientLens has used on this device, with a rough cost estimate and a link to your provider's official billing dashboard for the exact figure.
  • All your data stays in this browser. Clearing browser data will delete your library, use Export backup regularly.
